TAN\/The Star<\/p>\n<p>CommunityHome > Metro > Community<br \/>\nFriday, 10 June 2016<\/p>\n<p>A PRIMARY school in Tokai, Kedah, has launched its own community green lung and leisure park by planting 175 trees in the school compound.<\/p>\n<p>More than 100 people comprising pupils, teachers and ex-students of SJKC Boon Teik and members of the school\u2019s parent-teacher association took part in the project recently.<\/p>\n<p>The school\u2019s board of directors chairman Ong Soon Boon said the school was the first in the state to launch the project inside its premises.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA total of 125 Tecoma trees were planted behind our school while 50 Golden raintrees were planted near the school field,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ong said the RM50,000 project began at about 8am and was completed by 1pm on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe park will be called \u2018Tok Kai Park\u2019, named after Lam Tok Kai, a Tokai community leader who donated land to build the school many years ago,\u201d he said, adding that the old jogging trail would also be upgraded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a small effort by the school to create a green environment for the people of Tokai and for Mother Earth,\u201d stressed Ong.<\/p>\n<p>He said well-wishers paid RM250 each for the Tecoma trees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe flowers will blossom in three years time.
